Ménilmontant 1926 Avant garde French Silent Film Classic

A beautiful Chaplinesque scene from the avant garde French silent film classic titled Ménilmontant (a neighborhood in Paris where they filmed The Red Balloon 3 decades later).

Starring Nadia Sibirskaia as a French girl whose parents are murdered before her eyes; looking for love in the wrong place she becomes pregnant out of wedlock, is homeless and starving, and suddenly finds kindness in the most unlikely of places.

Directed by Dimitri Kirsanoff, who was married to the actress.

@GoldenSilents I'm not sure I understand your comment, so I probably misunderstand it. Cinema after the 1917 revolution was anything but static (to my understanding, at least), with groundbreaking things being done by Kulechov, Eisenstein, Pudovkin etc. Of course later on this changed, but at least in the beginning the ground was pretty fertile. And do you have any pointers on russian silents made before the revolution? I'd really like to see some of those.
