  • I never expected this to generate so many comments (i didn't expect any, really).

    For those complaining about Hicks' lack of respect for Confucuious or whatever: you're missing the point. It's just a joke. imho just a way of saying let's drop pointless rambling philosophy and be pragmatic.

    The one-hand clap is unexpected and funny. Move on.

  • Peace can be found in the absence of ascertained identity. Buddhists know this through extensive meditation, which allows them to perceive the illusory nature of our finite existence. Desire which is rooted in the idea of necessity, is the source of all suffering. To be empty is to free of identity, which is to hold on to nothing (physical, emotional, mental). Buddhism provides the means in which permanent joy can be experienced. This is scary for people who REFUSE to be in charge of their life.

  • Lao Tzu had better ideas than Confucius. So yeah, FUCK CONFUCIUS. Let's move on.

  • @roflwaffle12321 I don't think this is what Bill was trying to say and if America got it wrong he can't be blamed for that. I know he was a strong a believer in re incarnation and believed all people to be equal. Two things which he had in common with Buddhists. What he is trying to suggest here is that people should stop just taking things on board as gospel without questioning them first. He is encouraging us to use our brains and question things ourselves. I doubt he reall hated Confucius

  • @ahor65 I'd rather be like the Eight Immortals of Taoism, sipping wine, going wild and having a good time, than gulping into a microphone and telling people they don't exist. Maybe we're meant to fully enjoy human life and its experiences... nothing to transcend.

    @inphlux

    more than that, how rejecting your individual identity and simply negating the reality of suffering amounts to taking charge of your life? It's just escapism to refuse fighting with passion for what you desire and instead negate your own desires, not only that, this attitude is complicit with opression and fascism in its passivity.

    For a critique of the buddhist movemen by someone involved in it go here, if you are interested: bopsecrets(dot)org/PS/buddhists(dot)htm

  • @inphlux how do they know that the nature of our finite existence is illusory?

    this kind of religious claims really pisses me off.

  • Chuang Tzu would chase Confucius like a dog.

  • @hehfilms Bill isn't dumb enough to kill bieber. beiber is a puppet and very disposable. You kill him and there will be another.

  • 1 person lives in the past

  • @inphlux AND THIS HERE IS HOW AMERICANS INTERPRET BUDDHISM! A WAY TO BE BETTER THAN OTHER PEOPLE AND TELL THEM THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD AS YOU!
