@Sunshrine2 I lived in Siberia, Russia for 4 years from 92-96. I think I know what I'm talking about. The thing that irks me is people giving socialism or communism new little fancy names. It's like "liberals" who are now called "progressives" but are just as commie as they come. They don't want you to see right off the bat what they really are and what they stand for. I know a commie when I see one. Call it what you want but a commie is a commie is a commie.

Obama is not a communist lol. What a joke.

@TheFischers A Communist State is when only one political party (The Communist Party) is allowed to exist. The Communist Party of the Soviet Union was the only political party in Russia for about 70 years, it dissolved a few months before the USSR collapsed. China, Laos, Vietnam, Cuba, and North Korea are the only remaining communist states left in the world.

@TheFischers It sounds like you were there during a very exciting time, under central planning the government directed all economic activity (so no one could sell anything like they did when you were there, the gov. literally owned everything) when it fell there was an unregulated free for all for a few years, it probably was very wild.
-
@TheFischers Im not saying that you did not live in Russia at some point, I'm saying you did not live in a Communist State.
-
@TheFischers I'm not sure if you know this, but Russia stopped being communist in 1991, you say you lived there from 92-96, so you would have lived in capitalist Russia. The fact is that there are good ideas from both capitalism and socialism, that's why successful countries have mixed economies that combine the two. Here's how a fully capitalist society would look: no public highways, no public transport, no public health care, no national military, etc. Is that really what you want?
-
I guess I was too close to the grass roots and struggling myself. However, I was there from 92-96 and a wonderful time it was. I did learn a lot about what it was like in Russia first hand from the Russians themselves. All were busy digging their garden as soon as they figured the last frost was finished. they all had pogribs (deep sellers where potatoes and other vegetables are stored. The temperature down there is always +2-3 degrees so things keep. No one was above having a garden.

In the discription bar you said you had to wait in long lines for food and other goods, I thought that "breadlines" had ended when Russia shifted to a market economy.
-
@TheFischers "Shock Therapy" refers to the sudden release of price and currency controls, withdrawal of state subsidies, and immediate trade liberalization within a country. When the USSR was breaking up Boris Yeltsin announced Russia would be using "shock therapy" methods.

@T662W379C We were able to get it shipped by rail to Novosibirsk where we were given warehouses to store it and staff from the local hospital to help us distribute it. We targeted families with children first. Much of the food was leftovers from Desert Shield which was the US support of Desert Storm. The Russian people were very kind to us and extremely appreciative of the food. I wonder what would happen here if the monetary system crashed. I don't think it would go as well.
-
So what are you saying? I know nothing of "shock therapy" market reforms. I do know that the economy in Russia was in collapse. People were not paid for 5 months straight and yet went to work as usual. I thought to myself at the time that Americans would never put up with not being paid. But there was no money and so people strove on. It happened a the time that the US was sending massive food aid to the Salvation Army in Moscow. We wound up being recipients of massive amounts of that food.
-
You lived in Russia from 92-96? I thought the "shock therapy" market reforms were going on then.

@L3G1TA1MB0T Wanted you to know that I just flushed your filthy comment and have banned you from my sight to drift in everlasting darkness where you belong.

Read the comment directly below yours where I explain that I lived in Russia for 4 years. Instead of reading a book you might want to go and see, no live, first hand as I did. Communism is the ideal and socialism is the reality. It was capitalism that made this country great, the ability to get out and work and make it happen for yourself and family instead of wanting to redistribute the wealth of those who worked hard to get it. I despise socialism and the selfish, lazy, greedy spirit behind it
-
Hey, I know you conservatives just love to just to use the word "communist" as a scare tactic. I also know how you love to say socialism and communism are the same thing. Well, they're not, and on behalf of non-communist socialists everywhere I'd just like to say shut the fuck up and read a book!
-
You should take your own advice and looked just a couple comments down before giving it because it makes you look foolish. I lived in Siberia for 4 years from 92-96. I dare say that I know a little more about communism than you unless you also lived in a that was under it. The point is, Obama has been steeped in leftest thought his entire life, surrounds himself leftists, studied and taught Alinsky and that's what the song is about.
-
People need to learn what communism is before they start spewing out such nonsense. They should do some research.
-
@SuperMrBentley We try to encourage intelligent comments without crudity. I wiped your comment but if you can come up with something that everyone can read we'd love to let it stand and for you to have your voice.

I was born in 47. We called anyone who talked of such things as "income redistribution" "commies". I know the meaning of words down to the nth degree. I lived in Russia for 4 years. When they asked Romney if he thought Obama was a "socialist" he avoided the question and he dit twice. The reason for that is he has no balls! He's worried about the opinions of man instead of telling the truth. The truth is Obama was raised by and has been surrounded by commies his entire. It's what he is, period!
-
Che flag? I didnt know that... Anyway. Ok... Ill admit. Maybe Obama aint a democrat. But a socialist. But i still object him of being a communist.
When I was there it was just as the whole society was changing. People were selling a lot of stuff on the streets. People were rationed 2 bottles of Vodka a week and those that did not drink sold theirs to those that did. There was barter and trade everywhere. The Mafia was just getting off the ground as well. It didn't take them long and they had Mercedes, satellite phones, AK 47's, while the police were driving these really old cars pronounced Ja goo lee. It was wild but very exciting!

I guess when you get right down to it there is no "Communist State".

What I would like to see is a return to the type of government that made this country great. The size of Federal Government should be greatly reduced as founders envisioned it. You know exactly what kind of government I would like to see. The US will soon cease to exist as we know it if we continue with Obama's "fundamental change". If you have studied him then you know that he has spent his life steeping in Marxist philosophy and intends to destroy who and what we are and have been.

@TheFischers I don't believe that you have lived in a socialist country. You sound like you get your information from a book. Is that true?

If you really want to know what it was like I can tell you but I must be honest and let you know that having someone question you over the facts of your life is slightly offensive. I wouldn't not be telling you I was there if I was not. I still have the passport I used during those days.

@TheFischers You claim to know firsthand what living in a Socialist State is like, but in that period Russia had already abandoned central planning and adopted a multi-party system.

@T662W379C Sorry but there were long lines. We were buying bread at what amounted to 4 cents a loaf US. I don't know where you get your facts. I suppose a book.
