great fly! I'll have to tie some up for bass. I like the little red thread head in the front. it could act as a trigger for the trout to grab the fly. maybe to the fish it looks like a wounded sculpin on the bottom that's a easy meal. who knows? but I'll definately give it a try.

This fly is awesome especially articulated. Used to use it to catch monster browns in Norcal. Can you also do the articulated?

i would put the cone on, wrap about 4 turns of lead wire and slide up under the cone, the cover lead with with thread and it should hold in place.

Instead of putting the red thread in front of the bead i would add some lead wire behind the head and push it under lip of the bead. This will stablize it and you wont have to put thread in front of it. otherwise nice tie!
Yeah i tied a few that way too. The only thing I didn't like was that it is hard to tie the collar underneath the cone, I always ended up with a gap between the collar and the cone. So I thought I would try sliding the cone back to cover up the gap and to hold it in place I needed to add the red thread.
