What an absolutely amazing video. A gift of the heart! Our good guy and brother, Asst. Commodant James F. Sloan (The man in front of the American flag in this video) is fighting every day with ALS, teaching us all what the precious gift of life is all about! Thank you Ann for making this fantastic video. I hope all that see it pray, send good wishes, and spread awareness about ALS and about those living with ALS so we can see a cure become a reality ASAP! Thank you for inspiring so many! 143

We must find a cure! Thank you for putting this video together.
What are we waiting for? Veterans have fought for us, now it's our turn to give back and fight for them!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe the United State Senate voted the S.3297 bill down the other day. (50 to 42) If only 8 Senators would have had the courage to do the right thing and voted YES then maybe we could have found a cure in our life time.

My dad was in the army in the 1950s and he has als. He's 79.

My husband, a USAF Vet, was dx in Oct 2010. He laughs when the drs tell him it's painless. He's the one with the disease; how can they tell him what he is or isn't feeling. We have 3 children who have chosen the USAF as their careers. No one knows for sure if there really is a link between ALS and the military, but I sure do hope the US government takes this serious and steps up their research on this BEAST of a disease. How can a disease be around for142 years with no cure or real treatment

Definitely a connection between ALS and military. Also someone I know made a connection with Fort Polk specifically.

Today, there is growing evidence that a link exists between lyme disease and ALS. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with ALS, Parkinsons, or MS, do request a test for Lyme disease and it's coinfections. Blessings to all.

The common connection with those that have served in the military ( like myself USAF) is the mutiple vaccinations we all had to endure. Within 3 months of enlistment I received 13 vaccinations and another 7 before being deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. Within 2 hours of the receiving the anthrax vaccine I had profound fatigue and a 102 deg fever. I have had chronic fatigue, joint pain and other health issues ever since that vaccination. Word of advice don't fuck with the body.

@Jagovern143 2. yes, i knew someone who suffered from als.. i know it's really sorrowful, and I pray that someday will be a cure for the disease.

@Jagovern143 I'M SORRY, didn't want to offense anybody.. I understand that people that suffer from the disease trying to find some reason to blame the disease on, but i think that the millitary service got nothing to do with it. I have no doubt that it's the cause for many distresses in the world, but i think that not for ALS.

MY HUSBAND IS A VETERAN AND WAS DX WITH ALS A FEW MONTHS BACK :0(

@PeopleNeed2 LoveMore I am so sorry to hear the news about your husband. You will both be in my thoughts and prayers! Please know that each and everyday there are those of us working to bring about awareness and funds for research. My hope is for a cure of course, but if we could get treatments to slow down the progression that would be wonderful. Blessings to you!

This is bullshit!!
In israel EVERYONE serves in the army, but there's no evidence for more als patients than in any other country!!

@bargmans That's good news that ALS doesn't hit Israel harder. Maybe the world could learn from your country since everyone has to serve in the army and the rate isn't higher. Has Israel ever done any studies? Do you know anyone that has suffered from ALS?
I guess when you watch your loved one suffer and die from this horrific disease you search for answers. I'm sorry you feel this is BS

Believe your Dad before a stranger with an agenda. Each ALS person is unique.
Yor Dad wanted to leave you with the feeling he didn't suffer. Don't let anyone change that for you.Use the GI bill become a doctor and cure ALS. That's how you can honor his struggle and make something positive out of his life.
People don't have to be horrified to be motivated to help a cause. We all die of something. Your Dad 's a teacher and enough of an inspiration.Good luck and be happy! You said nothing wrong!

JamieMD1-True I am a stranger, true I have an agenda. My agenda is to raise awareness for those who suffer with ALS so that one day there will be a cure. It is too late for my family, but I hope to God it is not for those yet to be diagnosed. I so wish someone had made it their agenda after Lou Gehrig, over 60 years ago and that the medical researchers would come up with some answers to the problems with vaccines so that these vaccines don't play havoc with our bodies.
