If you're Driving on IH-10, west of Fort Stockten, you are in the desert. Then all of a sudden, the Mountains rise out of the Earth. These are the Davis Mountains (the foot hills are the Barillas), the most extensive range in Texas. These Trans-Pecos mountains are the second highest range in Texas with Mount Livermoore at over 8,000 feet. In the mountains is Davis Mountains State Park . Close by is Balmoreah State Park, the Largest Spring-fed pool in Texas. Yep, this is a no mis for you I-10ners.
