This happened in São Paulo, Brazil, in November 19, 2007. The attendant picks up his cell phone when he is on top of the gas truck and causes an explosion. He died a few days later.
I think he drop the cell phone in the tank and that could set it off. Look at 1:24 when he pulls back for a sec before the explosion. The battery dead shorted and that would have enough power to light the fuel. A cell phone light, ringer and vibrator DO NOT have enough power to light the vapor.
I had to watch this for work, when I was working at the airport fueling planes. Serious stuff. The cellphone set off the explosion.
