This isn't a GOOD answer, but it's because it works. If they played it and no one recognized it or sang with it, it would be gone by now. Someday people will get tired of it, and they'll try something else. But, as long as times are good at Fenway, I think people will continue to sing it.

Being at the Red Sox game the night after the Bruins won the cup was just awesome! It's a great atmosphere to be at and Sweet Caroline.....oh, oh, oh...was a great time because it was...so good, so good, so good!

@slip39 i think another reason why they play it is because when the song ends, you can't purchase anymore alcohol....i don't know if this is true but i've been told that a few times and i've tried buying alcohol after that and they say no
