Here I teach about Hades,Sheol,Tartarus,Gehenna, Owlam,Aion and Aionios.
The word "hell" originally meant "to cover" or "hidden". That's where we get the word "HELmet". In today's society the word often means something totally different. For that reason alone I prefer to use the original greek and hebrew words to avoid confusion.Mark 9:44
Where 'Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.'
What did Christ mean by 'where their worm does not die'? Let us understand the spiritual significance of the term, 'their worm'.
Mark 9:42-44
42 'But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell (gehenna), into the fire that shall never be quenched— 44 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.'
Here, Jesus gives a warning not to offend 'these little ones who believe in Me'. So, who are the little ones? The little ones are God's Elect, all those who become truly born again Christians in this lifetime, those who have fully accepted by repentance and faith the truth of the Gospel.
Jesus Christ says that those who offend 'the little ones' will face severe judgement in God's consuming fire, 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched'. It is better for an offender of 'the little ones' to take a drastic action (compared to cutting off the offending part of the body) and repent of his offence before he dies, than to have to face the fiery, refining judgement of God in the Lake of Fire (gehenna).
Whose worm does not die? Is it the worm of 'the little ones' or the worm of the offenders? Please notice that the word 'worm' is singular, so we are not talking about many worms, but only one worm, their worm. Here is the wonderful scripture, which reveals exactly who 'their worm' is.
Psalm 22:6
But I am a worm, and no man; A reproach of men, and despised by the people.
Psalm 22 is a Messianic Psalm. It is a prophecy of the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus humbled Himself on the cross for the sins of the whole world so that we might have God's Righteousness and the free gift of Salvation.
In Psalm 22:6 above, Jesus categorically says that He is a Worm. On the cross, Jesus Christ humbled Himself like a worm for all of mankind and we must learn from His example of great humility. All hardhearted unbelievers will be humbled in the Lake of Fire and come to understand the sacrifice of their Saviour. So, who is 'their worm' who 'does not die' in Mark 9:44 above?
'Their Worm' is the Saviour of all people, who died on the cross for the sins of the whole world. 'Their Worm' will reconcile to Father God all things on earth and all things in heaven having made peace through the blood of His cross. 'Their Worm' is the resurrected immortal Saviour of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ who does not die and who cannot die. Here's more info on a popular misunderstanding:The Indo-European root behind these Germanic words is *kel-, "to cover, conceal" (so hell is the "concealed place"); it also gives us hall, hole, hollow, and helmet.

@Lrothtube I guess I was always kind of skeptical about that main false doctrine to be honest. I was waiting for an explanation I think. I was never forced to go to church so that helps. Mom just told me Jesus died for me. She kept it simple and it really is simple. He took a beating for all of us and rose again the third day.I grew up with atheist friends and I think I felt deep down that they would be alright. Even though it conflicted with poorly translated bibles. Glad to know for sure!

@phillipooh Luke3:6 "All people will see the salvation sent from God". Nowhere does it say God's judgments are what carnal minded christians think they are. God's judgments serve a purpose. Judgments refine us. No one comes to the father except through the son and no one comes to the son unless the father draws him. God's plan is perfect. See Ecc 6:10 and Eph 1:11. A person's life is NOT HIS OWN. No one is able to plan his own course.-Jer 10:23. God loves the world and love never fails.God bless

@phillipooh (continued) mean to US in this day in age? Nothing really, I mean its not like God is gonna throw anyone into Gehenna today, Im sure if you were to google image Gehenna you would see a nice landscaped treed valley, check it out, its really no threat! I think it would behoove many a "christian" to study the words that this young man has presented in the Greek, it changes the whole meaning of what Jesus Christ really has, & is doing for us!

@boltingpuppies -2nd Resurrection(after 1000 year reign):Those who didn't believe(which are many, the self-righteous,etc) will be judged by a JUST God at the great WHITE throne judgment. Then they will die the 2nd death and they will be made perfect. Some will be beaten with many stripes some with few. I wonder about Moses/Noah/Solomon(pre Christ people of true faith). I hope this answers your question.
If not I apologize.

@boltingpuppies To clarify, I am saying this Judgement (GWT) takes place after the 1000 years, after the resurrection of the dead. Thank you.
