  • very slow AF....pentax doesn't have one single product that is better than the competition...they should have gone backrupt a long time ago

  • @Sykeye7 I think you should try to make better judgement.

AF speed is not the "only" property of a camera that is important....

Pure image quality, durability, AF precision, colour rendering, high ISO noise, etc are important as well.

The K-5 has the best user satisfaction score in the Netherlands (kieskeurig.nl), it has the best DxO (dxo.com) score of any non FF DSLR, Pentax primes have the best price / performance in the market, Pentax was first with in camera HDR, etc, etc.

  • @Sykeye7 1) compared to the competition pentax is cheaper

    2) if you want a 1.2 or 1.4 lens get a compatible one from sigma or tamron. The pentax primes are designed to be compact compared to the competition

    3) the AF is not actually slow, its the fact that the pentax system has the issue that it will micro adjust even though focus is already achieved

    4) the kr and k5 are considered the best in class

    5) pentax was recently bought by ricoh which wants to take on canon and nikon

  • @bymy141 the K5 is a great camera,I admit that, but primes have the best price for what? performance? some of their good quality primes are INSALY expensive & the affortable ones have apertures like F/2.4,when the competition has F/1.8. I don't care about Netherlands, they might have different prices. In general Pentax is expensive. here for example,Pentax has over the semi-pro line price range, which is horrible.

  • well.. fastest lens I have is the F28-80/3.5-4.5.. then FA*24/2 and then FA35/2&FA50/1.4.. then the DA18-55AL WR kit lens and then DA18-135, then Sigma 17-70 and last is DA55-300 ;) But only if we talk about zero to infinity. If we talk about fort example 3m-5m, then even 55-300's speed is enough. Especially on K5 which has tuned AF.

  • The main reason why SDM lenses are very quite is because they have their own built in motor inside that drives the focusing lens, while an ordinary lens uses the camera's focusing motor. I should know, i work at pentax..

  • The conclusion must be that SDM doesn't make AF quicker, just quieter.
