The bends is what happens when the human body is deep under water and the pressure makes the nitrogen oxide in you blood bubble and it really fucks you up. Basically the album is talking about the PRESSURE they felt to make this album. Hope that sums it up dude

'The Bends' was discovered while building the Brooklyn Bridge, in the 1880's.. Workers were coming topside (from digging out the holes for the buttresses), and dying, mysteriously.. As described, earlier, the nitrogen oxide in your blood would boil (for lack of a better word), which would lead to an agonizing death.. Wild, huh?..

@RichofFitz Whatever man, stop living in the past, they had 3 quality guitar albums, 2 of which happen to get voted highly in the all time greatest albums, pretty much all the time ok computer is number 1 in britian and europe, it's boring if they just do pure rock albums all the time and it's great they have a different sound in every album!
