A quick tour of an Amtrak Viewliner (1st class sleeping compartment). The car is Viewliner #62006 - "College View" and was part of Amtrak Train #91 "The Silver Star" enroute from Philadelphia, PA to Tampa, FL. Not a bad way to travel if you are not in a rush!

  • how long did it take

  • Departed Philadelphia at 12:32pm and arrived Tampa 12:34pm the next day.

  • That's a good point. The bedroom is in fact bigger and has the toilet tucked away in the shower. I actually prefer the roomette though (shown here) due to the fact that the bed is positioned parallel to the rails. Rocks me to sleep. The bedroom bed is positioned perpendicular to the rails - in which the same rocking motion can be a bit disruptive to sleep (although not too bad,

    IMHO).

  • Hey, me and 3 friends are considering taking an amtrak silver star from charlotte NC to miami FL. Amtrak says its about a 20hr ride. would we be better off driving? and are long distance trains comfortable? (even for 3 people?)

  • @singerman96 although before Amtrak it only took 24hrs to go from NY to Miami. Amtrak will never run that schedule.

  • Nice! Amtrak really shook off that late reputation fast- it's not too often you see a late train anymore!

  • THANKS!

I'll be traveling the first week in March.

  • Trip is not that bad... bring something to do though and a blanket. For coach, the meals are not free but are low-priced. Hope you enjoy your trip!

  • Hi!

I'm planning a roundtrip in March from Hartfort, Ct. to Miami and back to Hartford. Most people advise me that it is better to take a plane and that the trip is too grueling (34 hrs). I have enough time and like the adventure of a train ride. I won't have a roomette, just a Business Class seat. What do you basically recommend to be prepared for? Do you pay for your meals? Are there plenty of Rest Rooms available? THANKS!

  • Cool video, always wanted to see the inside of one of these. Thanks for posting!

  • Thats really cool, My wife and I take Amtrak Silver Star all the time from Tampa FL to NYC, Check out the videos on my page.
