The North Hartland Dam shows its chops, protecting downstream communities from flooding after Tropical Storm Irene dumped 9 inches of rain over a 220 sq mile watershed.
This dam, with others, was completed in 1961 after the Great Vermont Flood of 1927 as well as the Hurricane of '38 to protect downstream communities from massive flooding.
(correction: capacity 23.3 billion gallons, not 13 billion)
