  • Ok this is fun to see, wish I had liquid nitrogen of dry ice in my lab., Try to place a small, mild radio active sample into the chamber, like Am or K-40 .

  • But be careful the Americium 241 from a smoke detector has only a thin layer of gold particles do not inhale that stuff I heard it causes lung cancer and even death!

  • part 1

the particles(pions, muons, muon neutrinos etc.) (you cannot see the muon neutrinos though. and if you do you'll win the nobel prize for physics!!!) you see are accelerated by remnants of exploded star.( by the magnetic field, gases etc.)and you can make a cloud chamber at home its pretty simple. I won 1st place at the 9th grade science fair for making that so if your not in ninth grade you can make that you have good chance of winning.

  • its the accelerator that takes up space in order to accelerate the particle, the cloud chamber is just a 3D impact zone that gives a visual of the particle path. There is a big difference though in energy levels.

  • The radioactive material decays and releases the particles at high speed. Try using some high grade uranium ore, or americium 241 from a smoke detector.

  • You take alchohol, put it in a covered petri dish, swirl it around until it evaporates, then place the dish on a block of dry ice. It should form a small cloud. Next, take your radioactive substance (probably the easiest one to get would be lantern mantles, which have small amounts of thorium in them) and stick it in the dish.

  • How did you make this?
