  • So why with a DE razor do you not shave according to grain? I've read to shave according to grain else where, is this a preference thing? Or does it come after technique has been more or less perfected?

  • @smilesmcgee33 oh, you can shave according to the grain if you want. But unlike a cartridge razor you can "cheat" a little and shave in a single direction to help you learn how to hold the razor at a consistant proper angle.

  • Fantastic videos. I just started DE shaving and hear your voice reminding me "don't bear down!!" when I am inclined to do so. I am shaving the face well enough though I am having problems with bumps and irritation in the neck region. Is this and ajustment to a new kind of shaving or is it a matter of technique?

  • DE from straight shaving?? Could you please let me know of how that feels? Most people like straight shaving as oppossed to DE razors, but from the sounds of it, you feel the otherwise??

  • I love these videos. I'm getting into DE shaving from straight shaving and it's great fun so far. Very nice for traveling. Thank you Mantic59!

  • I get razor burn really bad on my neck also. J-Hooking is the best method. If you are prone to razor burn, DO NOT shave against the grain.

  • Sorry, I take it back, 90 was probably right, watching the videos again! I'm having trouble with my neck too now, and I think the problem is the curvature of the skin against the straight razor blade. I think I'll have to leave it a few days to reduce in redness and bumpiness from my inept attempts, and be more careful next time. I copied the diagrams from the wet shaving video by hand - are they available on the web for printing?
