@fulie1 Yeah really. Skiing a groomer doesn't count as bowl skiing.

isnt this more like "on your way to the back bowls" of vail

@benny3134 I've skied Vail for over 40-years and have never found the back bowls to be overly crowded because they are so huge. OCCASIONALLY, at the bottom of each bowl the lift lines will get up into the 10-minute wait catagory on the MOST crowded weekends, but skiing the bowls themselves is rarely crowded because of the size of the bowls versus the capacity of the lifts to get people up. On weekdays, the lines are almost always nearly non-existant to about 3-minutes max.

Vail routinely grooms a few marked trails (more like cat track paths) through the bowls so that people who like groomers or aren't comfortable on ungroomed can experience the back bowls. If I recall, I think they normally do this with China Bowl.
The day before, 16" fresh powder fell and we had a blast there. This video was the next day, no new snow had fallen, and outside of the groomers was a crusty, nasty mess. I would have taken this same video the day before, but I didn't have the right camera with me.

They groom them when there hasn't been any new snowfall. The powder tends to soften up in the afternoon and then refreeze into an unpleasant crust...so they groom it to make it ski able again
