Her name was Rosie and, as you can see from this short video, she is a small woman with a big love for her people, their history, and, most importantly, their land. She is a member of the Kaku-Yulanji people living in what is now known as the Daintree Rainforest, the world's oldest living rainforest. Her life had not been easy, marked by a long separation from her family as a young child and a marriage to a white man which took her far away from her beloved forest. Hearing Rosie's story and seeing the forest through her eyes (one so intimately connected to its soul), I felt like I was inside history itself and the very beginnings of the earth somehow. I don't know quite how to explain it, but trees have a way of telling you a story just by standing next to them. To be submersed in another culture in such an old place makes for one of those...unforgettable moments. Thank you, Rosie.--August, 2008
