http://www.ClearedJobs.Net ClearedJobs.Net's HR Strategist Patra Frame on the importance of networking to a successful career.
Do you want a successful career?
Most of us do, but what does that really mean?
First it means you need to know what you want, short-term and long-term, and you need to have a plan to get there. One of the most critical elements of a successful career is networking. Networking is a term that scares a lot of people but networking is really just human connections, it's your family, your friends, your co-workers, people you've worked with in the past, people that you know through your community, church and volunteer organizations that you may be active in.
How do those people help you? In a number of ways. One, if you grow and develop connections with another human, you learn their interest, their needs, and how those relate to you and yours. That means you can ask them for help when you need help, whether that help might be information for a current job or information for a future job.
When you're looking at these connections, the important thing is to care for and feed them. That means you need to keep in contact with people on a somewhat regular basis. You can do that in a lot of ways, but you need to do it regularly. You need to be helping them when you can, and then in return they will help you when you need help. You may use this for any number of reasons, but we do know that people who are really successful are people who have really good networks within their own field, and outside of it.
So build your network for a successful career!
