Learn about data sets and the Nominal, Ordinal, Interval and Ration Scales/Levels of Measurement. Also see two Pivot Tables that allow quick summarization of Nominal and Ordinal Level Data to calculate the Mode. Also see how the AVERAGE function (Mean) does not work for Nominal and Ordinal Level Data, but does work for Interval and Ration Level Data.

This is a beginning to end video series for the Business & Economics Statistics/Excel class, Busn 210 at Highline Community College taught by Michael Gel ExcelIsFun Girvin

  • Yes, you can use Save As and change the file extension from .xls to .xlsm or .xlsx

  • @ExcelIsFun , I tried that and it fixes the pivot table, but its after the existing cells have been replaced. so some of the data is still missing. it seems every time i make a pivot table I have the go in and uncheck the "Classic" check box. Is there a way to change the default setting so it stays unchecked????

  • Try:

Right-click the PivotTable area in the worksheet and point to PivotTable Options, then go to the Display tab, then check or uncheck the Classic PivotTable layout checkbox.

Let me know if that works.

  • @ExcelIsFun Dear Excel, in fact the pivot table box replaces the top cells of the Ordinal column. I can see that you are using the other layout, the vertical one, perhaps that would be a solution.

I don't know how to change the pivot table layout, but before you actually create the pivot table otherwise. Is there a way to acces the pivot table options before creating the table?

    Thanks.

  • That message means that it thinks that something is below. Try placing the PivotTable in a different place.

  • Excellsfun, when I try to insert the pivot table in D4, it asks me if I want to replace the destination cells, there's no room..although I can see that in your excel it can be done.

  • You are welcome!

  • Awesome, Im in the UK and this really helped me with my criminology, measuring crime module ;) Thanks ALOT:)
