Stop and chat is as terrible as when you get the hug when you went for the handshake.

You know those stop and chat's where both do the stop to chat, because both feel like the other one wants to stop and chat, and nobody wants to be rude, but then it turns out that neither of you really wanted to stop and chat and now there's two idiots who have nothing to say after the first "Ah, hi." looking at each other. ...I hate those.

I dread the stop-n-chat almost as much as I dread the delayed greeting. We both know that when we entered the room we met eyes and noticed each other, we don't have to pretend like we didn't see each other until we are close enough to say hello.

God, another awful thing is when someone else in your house has guests, and you can fucking hear them doing stuff, and you DON'T WANT to interrupt what you're doing to go and engage with them about something you don't care about, because you have no bond with these people and nothing in common with them, but you KNOW that if you make the SLIGHTEST NOISE they're going to know you're home and think "HUH WHY ISN'T THAT GUY COMING AND ENGAGING WITH US?"
