So, I put a new starter on this thing, and it did same thing...

Its not the solenoid, because I can jump straight from the battery to starter, and it will not get past the compression stroke - if you tap the button it will eventually start as you see on this video...

Im not sure if its the starter or not, because Ive tried 3, and they all did the same thing, but they were from the same company... DB Electrical.. The starter I put back on was the old one... All of them even if I jumped it straight from the batter with jumper cables it would not get past the compression stroke..

  • Man i am SOOOO glad u posted this. I have the EXACT same issue with my 97 xp. So you did find out it was the starter?

  • @kalikube It was the starter! I bought one from a power sports store (never buy from SBT) that gets all of their OEM starters rebuilt by a local starter/alternator shop that replaces EVERY COMPONENT!

  • Did you find the problem?

  • @Undertaker348 3 bad starters.. 4th one was good....

  • clean your carbs and run a new ground wire...

  • @airbornexp Its not the carbs at all. It runs perfectly, and I raced a 130hp GSI yesterday and won :-P

It turned out to be a bad starter, and 2 bad replacement starters after that.

It starts first try every time now!
