Arouna and Siaka Diarra are from Bobo Dioulassou, 'the musical city' in Burkina Faso which is near Mali, Africa. I met them Kokrobite, Ghana. Here they share with us a traditional song from Burkina and play the Kora, or "African harp".
Not that it matters, but both playing ngoni not kora. At a quick glance about 13-14 strings. Kora typically has 21/22. Traditional ngoni have 8, but sometimes more as here. And yes-they're definitely playing Bani, just with a different song. Not sure which predates the other - i.e. if they adapted this from Bani or the other way round. My guess would be they copied it from Bani. Mariama is a common lyric or song title. However many kora melodies originate from ngoni. Either way, lovely playing!
