This video is created from X-ray images taken during an actual CyberKnife SBRT treatment for prostate cancer demonstrating the random and unpredictable shifts of the prostate during short periods of time. Such shifts in prostate position, caused by displacement of the organ by bodily functions, have been noted to shift the prostate 3 mm within 30 seconds and even up to more than 1 cm within 2 minutes as noted by Xie et al (2008). To ensure the radiation dose during a prostate SBRT is focused on the prostate and the critical structures are spared, it is important to deliver treatment with continual image guidance and automatic correction of beam aim during treatment.
