After returning from Potsdam, we stopped at the Hauptbahnhof so that I could get a reservation on a train to Munich the next day. The new Hauptbahnhof is the largest train station in the world, or Europe or Germany or something.. Or maybe its the largest station that is at a junction... I know there's some superlative assigned to it..

  • The superlative is it is the largest kreuz (cross) station in Europe I believe as Frankfurt and Leipzig still beat it by total floor area. I also believe that Gare Du Nord in Paris is actually the largest in Europe, but don't quote me on that.

Excellent station though and probably my favourite station in Europe in my favourite city in the world. =)

  • Yeah, I think they just made up that superlative so that they could tack it to it :-). My friend who was with me there worked on its PR campaign for DB when the station opened. I agree, it is quite cool; Berlin is my favorite city too...

  • You have to ride one of these panormaic-elevators! That's really great, you get a good impression of the hugeness. Nice vid!

  • Thanks! I didn't get a chance to ride them, but it is a really impressive place. My friend, who is German and was with me in the video, worked on the PR for the station and knew quite a bit about it.

  • Why they don't build something like this in the US? I don't understand this.

  • yeah. . Berlin rocks!

I lived in Berlin for three months and I have to say I miss it very much!

  • German stations are massive.. dint go to Berlin but saw the Frankfurt one which is huge and the ones in Munich and Cologne are not far off.. Cologne's special coz it's right next to the Dom!
