Memory to Charly

I got Charly in 1996 from the neighbours of my parents. He lived alone because we had always only one budgie. In 2006 he got sick. I brought him to a Vet and with his help Charly had 4 beautiful months before he died. During this time I was searching for some Informations about his symptoms. What I found was a lot of Information about solitary keeping. Budgies should not live alone. They are very social birds and that live in swarms. They need a partner for social living. At that time Charly was already so sick that I didn't want to stress him with a new bird. Now I'm upset that I didn't know all this. I have a book about the behavior of budgies and there is nothing about having more as one Bird. Now I have two budgies. It is wonderful to watch them preening, grooming or cuddling. And they can talk. They talk all the time. No, not what you think now. ;-) It is budgie-language, the only language they have to speak and I love it. Have a look to the other videos of my budgies.

You got him in 1996 and he didn't die until 2006? He did pretty well to live 10 years with you plus however many he did before you got him. I think he died more of old age than of illness. 7 years is usually considered pretty good for budgies. 10+ is very old.

thank you for your comment. You ar right, he lived 10 years with me. I think he was nearly 6 month as he came to me. He had still his "baby"-plumage, don't know the english word. He went through his first moult a short time after I got him. On Sept. 5. he is dead since 3 years.

i have a budgie who looks just like your charly :) i've had him now for more than ten years and i grew up with him. he got really sick this year and he's about to die :'(

Das tut mir wirklich leid, ich kann mir gut vorstellen, wie es Dir jetzt geht. Bei Charly war es ja auch vorausszusehen. Aber wenn der Moment dann da ist ist es halt immer hart. Und selbst heute, fast 3 Jahre danach und obwohl ich ja 2 süsse neue Wellis habe, denke ich immer noch an den kleinen Charly. Das wird Dir dann sicher auch so gehen, aber es sind die schönen Tage, an die man sich erinnert. lg Antje

im so sad my baby girl died last night and i wasnt even home i went to new york to stay with my grandfather and parents called and she was dying. She was seven but my friend gave her to me when she was six. She was my best friend and i will never forget her... Im gonna miss u pearl.

It's OK to have one bird, if you give him enough attention. It seems you did.

You might appreciate this eulogy to one of my beloved birds, Jake. He was elderly and abused when I adopted him.
