On Sept. 15th, Speaker of the House Chris Donovan and other Democratic legislators spoke to library patrons and staff members at Hartford Public Library. The new state budget, crafted by the House and Senate Democrats, restored funding to state libraries that would have been lost under Governor Rell's proposals.
Rell had proposed cuts to the state library board that would have significantly curtailed library services the State-wide Digital Library (iCONN), resource sharing, State-wide Database Program, purchase pooling system, interlibrary loans.
The budget passed by Democratic legislators and allowed to become law last week by the Governor restores funds for these critical library services. Lawmakers and library leaders will talk about the importance of protecting these kinds of services that libraries and Connecticut residents rely upon.
