Because usually the format is to take a media controlled talent meaning what the media says is beautiful, what the media says is music and what the media says you should worship and/or admire. Typically talented soulful or rhythm and blues artist don't fall into the ideology the media is pushing. In short She has a successful career do to Missy Elliot changing the status quo so now her talent can be freely appreciated. But you have to buy the album or artist like her wont be viable & wont exist.
