I installed 2 12V 12Ah batteries (in series) in this Barbie quad to double the top end speed. The high Ah batteries have low series resistance and provide plenty of torque via high instantaneous current. The burn out slippage from a dead stop limits current. Limit rider weight to between 50 and 100lbs for this modification. Not enough load and the armature will spin too fast and destroy the brushes. Too much load and the excess current will overheat the motor and permanently demagnetize the internal magnets. Armed with a "Hot Wheels" speed gun and a crazy son as a test pilot we got this baby up to 12 MPH! The concern on my son's face at the end of the video was due to the funny smell as the motors baked off the previous evening's rain.
Never thought plastic wheels would be so much fun.... I say throw down some motor oil too and set all the Power Wheels loose!
