John Travolta presents award for "Best Florida Film" to Dan Perez

The Sunscreen Film Festival awarded South Florida filmmaker Dan Perez with its Best Florida Film award for his documentary film P.A.T.H.
The award, which carries a $1,000 cash prize, was presented by John Travolta, who has been a supporter of the festival since its inception.

P.A.T.H. (which stands for Preserving, Archiving and Teaching Hip-Hop History) documents the P.A.T.H. Hip-Hop Academy, the first ever summer camp of its kind in Miami. During a four week span in the summer of 2008, teenagers from ages 12-18 studied hip-hop history, the art of DJing, MCing (rapping), B-boying/B-girling (break-dancing), and urban art (graffiti). Several of Miamis most talented artists and performers served as instructors including a special appearance by hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Dee of Whodini.

The Sunscreen Film Festival, now in its fifth year, is hosted by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society and was recently named one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals by MovieMaker Magazine. The primary goal of the film festival is to encourage the creation, production, and exhibition of independent film in Florida through its educational programs and public screenings.
