Isn't it better to place the holder after you place the clamp/dam in the mouth. Seems like it will be very tight or unwieldy.

@sparcograduate2009 : once you put the dam on the frame you can visualize the center. In practice even if you are off center by a couple of Cm's it doesn't make much of a difference, so don't let the placement of the hole worry you too much. Thanks for the query

Hi there,
great demo, also I loved the technique, but I have a question, how do we measure to punch the hole right in the centre of the dam?
kindly suggest.

@AlisaxKawaii no alisa you won't as long as you don't panic:) It doesn't cover your nose so you will be able to breathe normally. May take a few moments to get used to but there shouldn't be a problem after that.

Thankyou
Are rubber dams scented today? I got a root canal on February 2010 and I got a blue-green dam. It did not smell like latex gloves but had a rather sweet smell to it because the top of the rubber dam was right under my nose. Do you know if some are scented?

@eofficer : yes you can get scented one today. The ones I use are purple and blue colored and both have a pleasant fruity smell. Makes the patients feel better and less claustrophobic

Dear MsDrjam, thanks for the question. Usually a metal frame goes over the dam while a plastic one goes under. The reason for this is that it avoids injury to the pt from the metal spokes. the plastic frame hooks are angled differently making it almost necessary that it go under the dam. My take, do whatever you are comfortable with without causing the patient anxiety.
