    Esoteric back-story: Masonic occultists (many French & Russian élite) were a large part of Mexican "secularist" or "anti-clerical" tyranny, so it's safe to say their proscription of the Sacred Mysteries was for their greater control over the people's spiritual imagination & the nation's astral energies.

    (Note the [undeniable] parallel history between Masonry & desacramentalizing Reformationism & later relativism in northwestern Europe & the British Isles, then N. America, S. Africa & Australia.)
