I got up early on Sunday morning to railfan the Green Bay area because I knew via a Yahoo! discussion group that ex-WSOR F7 #600 was going to lead the northbound Escanaba and Lake Superior Railroad train out of Green Bay that day. With a 7:00 AM call time, the train can depart anytime between then and about 11.

When I arrived at North Green Bay Yard, I immediately went to the west end to see if the ELS looked ready to leave. Nothing doing there, so I headed back to the east end to find Wisconsin Central GP40 3017, with a relatively intact paint job compared to most of its sisters, standing ready to head to the west side with CN L578, the Park Job. This was the first and only time I ever saw the outbound version of this train. After snapping a few stills, I shot video of it crossing Ashland Avenue, just before passing through the old GB&W Norwood Yard.

Then I went up to Riverview Drive in Howard to set up for the ELS' departure. However, I then heard a horn to the west - L536 was coming in off the Marinette Sub behind GP40-2LW CN 9591 and SD40-2Q CN 6013.

  • i never saw a Wisconsin central go throw green bay not even a WSOR

  • WSOR territory is well south of Green Bay. CN owns all the track in town except for a small amount owned by ELS (which does have an ex-WSOR locomotive in their red and gray paint). CN took over Wisconsin Central, so a few locomotives left in WC paint still run on their system.

  • that be a good place too fish and railfan

  • Yeah, I've bumped into people doing one or the other there (Duck Creek) but not both at the same time...yet.

  • ....those lights were still flashing and bells still going off and that was double track.....and people just instantly start crossing as soon as the end of that train had passsed.........it is of no wonder to me why so many people get hit at grade crossings.....Great video by the way!!!!!!

  • Yeah, luckily it's only a yard lead on a branch line and there'll never be trains on both tracks at the same time, but they don't know that.

    And thanks!

  • Thanks!

April 20th of this year. Most of my videos have the dates in the title for future reference.

  • Excellent video Andy! The WC 3017 is a great motor and I'm surprised by how great of condition the paint is in. When did you shoot this video?
