It's a nice idea.
Surely, your child learned reading without that baggage, but it's like a training mobilizing words in your child's mind. It will recongise words much faster and will speak more fluent, because words which are needed for explaning something come easier in mind.
Think about it.

My children learned to read without all this and it did not take long at all. With this method (of extra baggage) they'd have been completely confused!
