This is a segment of a fascinating interview with legendary session musician (primarily keyboards) Larry Knechtel, who was a member of the celebrated consortium of LA studio players known as "The Wrecking Crew." He worked with producer Phil Spector and played on tracks by Simon & Garfunkel (Knechtel won a Grammy for his arrangement on the song "Bridge Over Troubled Water"), Johnny Rivers, The Beach Boys, The Mamas & The Papas, The Fifth Dimension, Paul Rever & The Raiders, The Association, Elvis Costello and many more. Beyond his session work, Larry was a member of the 70s pop/rock band Bread.
This is great! I met Larry in the early 70s in a class at USC. The instructor was a session vocalist and he worked with all these guys. Different guests - session players - every week. Great class, and Larry was a fascinating guy as well as an amazing musician. Thanks for the video interview.
