Technically. Buddhism's kind of aggressively agnostic: it's more "There may or may not be a god, worry about that when you're not so busy trying to reach enlightenment."

No that's Budai(布袋). As for my understanding of Budai, he is like a Buddhist Santa Clause.

Thats is actually more accurate. The version that most westerners see as Buddha is Budai as he was even used in China for Chinese Buddhists to have as a symbol of Buhdda. Eventually they came to be both represented in Chinese culture by the same statue.

Buddhists don't NECESSARILY believe in god. There are lot of Buddhists who worship the Siddhartha Gautama as a god. It's really not unheard for Buddhists to even believe in Jehovah, Yahweh, or Allah. Atheism isn't a prerequisite of Buddhism. However I don't personally follow the teachings of the Buddhas. So I can't really respond if you claim that they aren't "real" Buddhists.
