This video shows why Bowman, Odrick, and Maybin were all high draft picks in the NFL.
Sean Lee would have been a part of this already great defense, but missed the season with a knee injury. Otherwise this D would have been right up there with the best ever at PSU
@ohiostmarine29203 It wasn't our defense that let us down against Ohio State, it was our special teams unit. I seem to remember Ohio State's linebackers and secondary being tortured by Graham Zug for the second year in a row.
Good question. Wish I had an answer. Maybe because Wagner impressed JoePa in 2008 by booting that long field goal in the Carrier Dome to put us up 48-13 late in the third quarter after we ate some clock with the backups. I think having Fera at PK could help for field goals, but our kickoff coverage even sucked in 2007 and 2008 when Kevin Kelly was our kicker. I don't know what happened after 2006, because since 2007, we've had consistantly bad to atrocious kickoff coverage.
Oh, and don't forget that Collin Wagner has to have the weakest leg of any collegiate kicker in recent memory. His kicks are taken at the 5 or 10 yard line every time. I don't understand why Joe hasn't allowed Fera to be the kickoff specialist and at least be given a shot at PK.
But then again, everyone, even Syracuse manhandled our O-Line. But our kickoff coverage needs something done with it, or we'll end up giving teams super short fields. Did you know that all of Ohio State's scoring drives only totalled 148 or so yards? PSU needs something done about our kickoff coverage, the past three years teams have been averaging returns to the 40 or so on us.
We lost to OSU because our O-line was manhandled, our kick coverage teams gave our defense short fields to work with, and the OSU offense capitalized on it and played turnover free football. The defense didnt play terrible, but they didn't make any big plays to turn it around. I still think we will house either Ole Miss or LSU in the Cap. One or an overrated automatic qualifier in a BCS game.
As far as quality of wins, probably yes. But if you factor in both the quality of the win and the amount the team was thumped, it probably would be Temple, since they are a great MAC team (we lead Temple 21-3 at halftime, we trailed Northwestern 10-13 at halftime). Also, at the time the Michigan win seemed huge, we found out later that it wasn't as big as it could have been. But what frustrated me is that Michigan only lost 10-21 to Ohio State. I still don't know how we lost to the Buckeyes.
Looks like this team did play with some emotion, which they should've with so much on the line. Actually our best win would've been Northwestern. They did beat Iowa in Kinnick Stadium and Wisconsin. The bowl game will be the tell-tale of what we have as a team.
Well, now I agree with you after they didn't just get exposed, but more like, pantsed by Ohio State. Call me nuts, but I have a bad feeling about the Michigan State game that it'll be 1997 all over again since MSU has much more at stake and Penn State just isn't playing with heart anymore. What's sad is that the best team we beat all year was Temple, they beat Navy about the same as Ohio State did. Maybe not sad, though, because it means Temple is improving, but sad for us, actually.
