Don't Let Me Down was written and co-produced (with Henry Cosby) by Kim's husband William "Mickey" Stevenson.
It was recorded in October 1965 and didn't (officially) see the light of day until it was included in "A CELLARFUL OF MOTOWN Vol 1" in 2002.

Further evidence that many female artists at Motown were under-promoted or had material shelved in order to ensure that those in the right bed remained prominent and the focus of attention and public adulation.

  • Another wasted tallent at Motown. Shame on you BG.

  • No wonder Kim went off to MGM if Motown were not promoting or even releasing her work. If it had been Miss Ross, Gordy would have paid every DJ to give it airplay.

  • The picture of Kim in the green dress reminds me a lot of Helen Reddy... :-)

  • I LOVE this song. I had it on a CD collection called "A Cellarful of Motown". This song, had it been released, certainly has all the hallmarks of a hit - catchy tune, well-phrased vocals, and a swinging beat...

  • Thanks for posting!!! Kim was such a big part of the Detroit music scene and ran the Summer Youth Program, too! She played my mother in a local musical ("Little Red") and looked out for and encouraged me. Wish I could contact her...

  • Kim probably knew too much about Motown; she was married to Mickey Stevenson to head of A&R for the company.

  • Who is singing the background vocals? It doesn't sound like The Andantes. For some reason, I hear Florence Ballard's voice.
