D-DAY: Monday, March 17th - Stop The SPP - by electing Doug Plumb Toronto-Centre MP! :-)
.
Hey Folks,
It was great to see thousands interested and hundreds out Feb 16th, while the current Toronto-Centre federal by-election for MP is an opportunity to use our numbers for a crash course in electoral politics.
If Doug wins he can help stop the SPP.gov / North American Union; if he does well we show the city's dissatisfaction with establishment politics; if we support him it shows we'll support others and encourages them to try.
It's a win-win situation no matter what happens and perfect opportunity to approach people with a perfectly reasonable excuse to talk politics that no one can argue with, so below are things we can do in the next couple of days.

1. Carry your "Doug Plumb for MP, Toronto-Centre" signs during the March 15th anti-war rally in Toronto. While many messages are effective, this is the most timely since we have an informed and committed anti-war candidate running right now who understands the lies - like ignoring the depleted uranium destroying the planet - and who can ask the questions that get the public the answers they need to be inspired to stop the wars. The images show selfless local unity too.
2. Call or email radio stations and newspapers during the day or after hours to speak with someone or leave voicemails asking them to mention Doug's name before the election on Monday, he did it himself on Thursday night with good results.
3. Call or email the Churches and other organizations in the Toronto-Centre riding to let them know about their option to have someone in the federal government truly committed to asking the hard questions on behalf of the people and the press to get real answers.
4. Collect exit-polling data on Monday, March 17th at one of the voting stations to prevent vote-fraud in Canada. We don't need to count everyone, we just need to account for sample-sizes and extrapolate like most polling places do. Teams of two can work certain hours and count as many answers as they get to see how voters were thinking while letting them know why you'd do this for a small party. Later we can add up our sample-sizes and compare them to the official results to see what happened.
5. Ideally we'd always have over 20 people running for every office in every riding in the world against incumbent candidates, either for a party or independently. That way there's always a reason to speak on important issues in your neighbourhood, including keeping track of what the person elected last time is really up to. Figure out the local rules and start right away, your neighbours will appreciate your information more because it's tied to a political mechanism they respect. Don't worry if you agree with other candidates, it's always better to give voters a choice between at least two good options.
6. Print, photocopy, email and pass-out flyers to everyone you can letting them know about the by-election, especially to the people in the Toronto-Centre riding, though others may be able to influence family and friends there too. Let everyone in Canada know we have a viable candidate who's working on the biggest issues we face.
7. Wear a Canadian flag pin or something like it on March 17th, if anyone asks why remind them there's an election, who you're supporting and why, it's a great chance to break the ice in conversation and hand them some information. Even if they're not voting in the Toronto-Centre riding, let them know that by-elections happen all the time and they should know what's going on just in case.
.
That'll do for now, best of luck and please be in touch with any problems, reactions or solutions! ;-)
Cheers,
MPVij
