5.56 mm 62 gr NATO "Green Tip" vs. 1/4" Steel

Effort to completely penetrate a 1/4" thick piece of welding steel with the 62 gr NATO "green tip" round in 5.56 mm. This is NOT armor plating....far from it. Distance to target was 80 yards. Footage includes slow-motion of the hit.

I would like to try this again at a longer distance, such as 150 or 200 yards.

I doubt very much that you need "penetrator" bullets of any type to defeat 1/4-inch mild steel with a .223 rifle. A hollow-point varmint load would probably make a slightly bigger hole and still exit the back of the plate with energy to spare.

Just picked up a thousand rounds of this ammo. It was on sale all over at Christmas. My Mini likes it and seems to shoot the 62 gr a little tighter than the 55gr..

@TheKodiak72: Good idea. I'm afraid we're out of 1/4-inch plate at the moment, and the local steel distributor is closed for the weekend, but I'll see if I can make that video sometime next week.
