Recently the 2002 Toyota Corolla started having issues with rough idling and poor running. Here's how we remedied the problem by cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)

  • what if the check engine light doesnt come on anymore but it still idles? what do you think might be wrong? i have a 2000 corolla

  • @berthao777 Have your driven the car around for a bit after the cleaning? It may very well be that the reset of the check engine light has cleared the codes, but since you haven't driven the car enough the computer may not be triggering the light yet. If you clean the MAF and the car still runs poorly then it's very likely to be another component causing the issue.

  • I heard you say you are in Arizona, I'm in the West Valley.

    Love those Toyota's. I got a 2002 corolla S....

  • @ArizonaPublic Yeah, I'm down in Tempe. The Corolla's been a great vehicle, but it's getting very tired. I think we'll wind up retiring it in the next couple years. Plus, I really want to steal the A/C system out of the car and adapt it to one of my british cars.

  • @TheyMightBeRacing Just curious about cleaner you used. Though your suppose to use MAF cleaner not carb cleaner? hmmm

  • @correctit1 MAF cleaner is mainly Hexane Isomers (which are a significant portion of gasoline). Carb cleaner that I used is mainly Ethanol. For use in this instance there's really not enough of a difference between the two to matter.

  • @muralenadarajah66 you gotta use mass air flow spray cleaner from auto zone. =D

  • Fixed it! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

  • @embarq12 Me too! After watching this vid I fixed my 2000 about 5 minutes. How did we fix our cars before youtube?

  • Thanks a bunch !! I was able to fix MAF issue on my Toyota Corolla 2000 after cleaning it.

  • My Mazda Demio 2001- Engine check light came ON with bumpy idle and miss. I changed all the plugs. still problem persists. Do you think clening the MAF and the throttle area will solve this issue. Pls suggest a what cleaning liquid/spray to use?

  • Thanks theymightberacing of the info I got p0171 code last night. I just clean MAF. No More Code. Salamat : )
