  • This was a very special 'event' so that I could move them from the old property to the new property. At the new property I have planted a number directly, as well as a number in pots for growth over winter. Check out the more recent comfrey video I have posted on YouTube.

  • That's very true except that it is kind of hard to pickup a garden full of comfrey and move it 400km, which I did with this lot, or give them as gifts to like minded friends, also did with this lot. Generally I would plant directly where they are to grow but sometimes there are advantages to such special treatment.

  • A neighbour gave me some comfrey which they said to put straight in the ground, but they don't seem to be doing very much. As a 'vigorous' plant I thought it would burst forth with new leaves but the few that are on there look a sorry sight. It's been over a month now so I'm wondering if I've planted them wrong?

  • Great video, thanks. I have been doing this for years. I just cut the roots into about 2 cm sections then plant them into small pots until they send up leaves then put them in the garden.

I was just wondering why you put both some root and crown into one pot. what are the advantages of this. Cool video.

  • Good info on the vegetation comfery and I like your propagation tubs. That technique seems easy to get plants started. Thanks for the info.

  • I live in pA. I have comfrey growing all over. you only have to put any roots in the ground and it will root.

    Will grow with limited light..

  • IMHO it looks like you're going overboard. I propagate comfrey by cutting the roots up into 1 cm pieces, planting them directly in the ground and forgetting about them. They are extremely tough and can even grow through thick mulch.
