  • i have played both for almost 30 years. it's very simple...

a violin will never have beer spilled on it.

  • Ok, listen up, i'm going to settle this once and for all... The difference between the fiddle and the violin is anytime you're playing the fiddle, there is a case of beer no further than 20 feet away :)

  • (cont.) the differences can be an "altered" violin or special design to suit the performer. But glad to have the answer that technically they are one-&-the-same. Thanks!

  • Thank you for the answer. :) Many of the comments are amusing, a few are snobbish, stereotypical garbage. I always assumed that the 2 were in difference about as much so as, say, a Flute & a Piccolo - which are the two instruments I'm most proficient in playing. Basically the same fingering pattern & scaling, and same music. (Obviously difference in pitch, size, & sometimes, yes, a piccolo is more often played to marches. And incredibly difficult to tune to other piccolos.) I see in comments th

  • @stefanegglestone The hardingfele.

  • Apparently it's more abstract than anyone realized.

  • every expertvillage video i have seen (scores) has been utter shit - except this guy, who is brilliant!

  • @stefanegglestone Ahh!! That's totally it! I remember the name! Thanks so much!!!

  • In reference to the person who asked about a fiddle with resonant strings a while ago - it might be a Hardanger Fiddle, from the west coast of Norway.

  • "don't fiddle with that gear, we're behind..." lol to the little things in life

  • (continued) where a professor should best come in.

Anyone could go on there and say that there is technically no difference. I would beg to differ. I have 2 violins. An acoustic and an electric, I bought a special bridge for my electric that is much more shallow. This makes it easyer to play. I think I read somewhere down in the comments that somebody else has also heard that the bridge is the difference between the two.

I might just go edit wikipedia now. Dunno. can't decide.
