My first meet, since september. I have been sick for about the past 3 weeks so I took it easy. My coach had me open up at 11', then i passed to 12'6 and jumped at 13' and made them all, on first attempts.

My run is pretty smooth, however, i wasn't swinging long, after take-off, so I'll have to work on that.

On the first 2 attempts at 13'7, I was actually OUT, because of how much I increased the cadence of my steps, on the last 6 strides. Honestly, that's a good thing, I just wish i had been doing it, the whole meet.

GOOD THINGS:
1. Fast run, quick steps
2. High Plant (good timing)
3. Kept the drive knee up
BAD THINGS:
1. Broke left leg, when "swinging" through (no swing at all, really) and this through off my top end
2. Too soft of poles (but i guess it was okay for my first day back)

Ah well, I'll work on some things and hopefully will be on 15-foot poles, by the time my next meet rolls around, in February

PS: I won the meet

  • thats really funny you the westfield kids. hope your doing well joe.

  • haha, thanks bro. you too!

  • my spikes are built in,

    my best is 13 ft

    why werent you there yesterday?

  • ah, that sucks. And cause of some stupid, inssurance thing!!! it's ridiculous!! they won't let me compete (except for that one meet, for some strange reason) because i'm not from morris county. They say, they have no proof that I know what i'm doing and that if i get hurt, i can sue for millions. so they just don't let me compete. My next meet won't be until february 2nd, at league championships. Hopefully, by then, i'll be on 15-foot poles, going around 15' (=

  • no, i didnt know about the shoe rule

and my shoes were illegal so i couldnt

  • why didn't you just take the spikes out?? haha what's your PR?

  • Words... Sometime, they're almost useless!

  • I always try to "push" the pole away from me, but it sounded as though you meant I should blockout, with my bottom arm. I agree with you, that that would kill the energy. My mistake, for misunderstanding you. What i'm confused with, is: how does something LOOK like it collapses, without actually collapsing??

  • Nutley. Did you compete??

  • Who ever said would be bad? If they say that they're F'ing morons. Sorry to say, but watch some of the elite vaulters. You'll see that hand in front of them look like it collapses but it doesn't. They soon push up with that left arm thus creating a high bar for them to swing on. I'm saying push up, not straight in. Straight in will kill the energy that you put into, but by pressing up you encourage upward motion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but show some proof.
