The world premiere of the third movement of my String Quintet in G Minor. I, Nicholas Wheeler, aka nickmaestro, composed the work. This was the fifth act of Phi Mu Alpha Musicale Fall 2008.

Notes:
String Quintet in G Minor - Nicholas Wheeler (b. 1987)
III. Intermezzo

Elizabeth MacCorquodale; Samuel Wood - Violin
Emily Vold; Sara Beth Flink - Violas
Harrison Cook - Cello

While composing the third movement, I had a plan to stay out of the Major/Minor modes. As I was gathering ideas, I randomly thought of the time I was watching one of my friends play an extremely rare game for the SEGA CD called Dark Wizard. I went on-line and watched some game play footage, eventually finding the prime inspiration for my third movement. The opening solo and section following are quotes from Dark Wizard, with my own twist. My end result turned out to have the opening and returning theme in Phrygian mode, plus my own original ideas, melodies and reharmonizations.
