Wisconsin winters can be very harsh. When lakes and rivers freeze over, bald eagles congregate near available food sources, such as locks and dams on the Mississippi River where the water remains open year-round. Most of the perched birds are bald eagles; the large dark birds are immature bald eagles. As can be heard in the audio, there are crows in the area as well.

haha, I hear the crows. One reason why the eagles are there. Eagles will catch and eat them. Really cool video.

So happy to see this video. Affirms my belief that parents and juvies migrate together - probably to the same spot every year. The Decorah eagles have just left the building (nest) and last tracking of one is near Preston, Fountain, and Lanesboro, MN. They are all very close together, small towns, with tons of parks and rivers and streams. I am so happy for them and bet they are having a great time! Thank you for posting this for the me and all the Decorah lovers.

Bellevue, Iowa - nice little town on the Mississippe always has a group fishing below the lock and dam in the winter. They play "snatch the fish" with each other.
