A public lecture by Daniel C. Dennett, Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University, entitled "Is Science Showing That We Don't Have Free Will?"

In his lecture, Professor Daniel Dennett discusses some of the current work in psychology bearing on this question.

He also drew on Hume, Darwin and Turing, three Enlightenment heroes.

  • Where's the part where he explains how we have free will?

  • LOL @ 37:35

  • Avoid's opposite is intercept.

  • @TurpentineRec Who's the Christian in your statement--Dennett or Hume? One is a bit more laughable than the other...

  • Why Does Dennett get so tangled up with the morality issue? It's almost like he is working backwards trying to apologize for determinism. It isn't necessary! Determinism is NOT PRE-determinism!

  • Lol. Free will, Hume's, "Ought to"... We have two choices and just two choices, AND we can chose not to choose (no, no, it doesn't consist a choice). That's a christian philosopher trying to pass as a good philosopher...

They are falling asleep and rightly so. He keeps repeating himself and have sides on sides on sides. Makes assertion after assertion and then rant far too long to explain fairly simple concepts that ultimatly did not help his case at all. In the end he listed conclusions that were simply the assertions he made in the begining and that could not be drawn from his "explanations".

I suppose you put yourself in that minority.

  • @dan012345 I believe the people in the room who have a full grasp of the concepts being addressed by Dennett are a small minority.
