Very similar to sand blasting or soda blasting methods, dry ice blasting uses frozen carbon dioxide as the basting media. This has the benefit of zero secondary contamination to the environmental spaces in which blasting work is needed, the blast media simply vaporizes as a gas.
Good video showing how the dry ice blaster thoroughly cleans the workpiece. Dry ice blasting in this way is an excellent form of cleaning, providing thorough contaminant removal. The icesonic equipment being used is very effective and low cost compared to more expensive models that provide no further advantage. The reality is for the naysayers out there is dry ice blasting is a professional industrial process offering distinct advantages compared to shot or soda blasting.

This is a double hose system. These machines are inexpensive, lightweight, simple to operate and maintain, yet with the help of a good compressor can deliver a punch.
It is an excellent example of a good workhorse!

This is a terrible example of dry ice blasting. This is 1980's technology.

Consider that the dry ice blast cleaning is much more thorough and thus your scheduled PM downtime can be substantially decreased a while the intervals are substantially increased.
Dry Ice Blasting compared to other blasting processes usually costs more, however other processes normally couldnt be used, so your left with hand cleaning and/or chemical applications not nearly as effective.
On the surface, the alternative seems less pricey, but often turns out to be much more costly.
