  • I have a mold about the same size. How much chopped mat f/g did you use?

  • @Timulch1 For the mold? I didnt use much, I like to keep the mold wall thin so it has allot of flex. If you talking about the part, it depends on the application.

  • How many layers of fiberglass did you use to make it that strong?

  • @jonwhunt 'layers' is not a very good way of describing strength because there are hundreds of thicknesses available and hundreds of types. The one at the end of the vid with about 8mm wall thickness average. Its the sphereical shape of the box that multiplies its strength, it could handle many time that much.

  • Great video by the way. I am surprised at how far you would go to produce such a specialised item though. You're set up to make dozens of these now.

  • @Zetune79 yeah Ive made many. It saved allot of time.

  • cool video. it worked about the way i imagined, but i'm trying to think how i'd be able to use the same technique making a custom stereo boombox with just 8 inch woofers. it would be pretty hard getting inside a box through maybe a 7 inch opening on each side. maybe i could do it if used smaller tools. i was originally thinking of using 3D printing, but that's very expensive.

i DID learn that you lay up your 2 halves separate before joining though.

  • @jonisd what is the cost **

  • i want to make a engine cover for a boxster out of fiberglass , how does it hold up to heat and such things , wear n tear ...... also is the cost of materials for such a part.

  • How many times the mold can be use?

  • Nice video :). I work with fiberglass n I'm gonna make a mold for my subs when I can

  • do you think you could possible make a sub box for a scion tc?

  • Thanks for the heads up about using talc to prevent fiberglass itch. Before I used paper arm sleeves and gloves which get very hot in the Texas gulf coast climate where I keep my boat.

  • Love your vids!! I'm doing a fiberglass refinishing project on a sailboat (learning as I go). At what do point do you prefer to use PVA, and at what point do you prefer to use mold release paste and why? Do you ever use peel ply?
