The Public meeting is aimed at bringing together interested Members of the European Parliament of the ALDE group and of the European Parliament in general to discuss and evaluate with experts, members of the parliament, national parties representatives and non-governmental organizations how the UN strategy against drugs launched in 2008 has been implemented in the world, in the European Union and in its Member States.

It also aims to plan activities and campaigns for ALDE and for its members in 2008 and 2009 in the view of the United Nations evaluation meetings, the first of which will take place on the 10th of March 2008, when the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs will meet in Vienna to review the results of this strategy.

The public meeting will follow up with a planning a series of activities on this issue.
