Alright so I've already got all the tools to do this. But by the time I've bought a new bolt carrier, the gas rod system, and a new front sight I think I might as well have just bought a new upper.

If you're up for it and confident in your skills, give it a whirl....for beginner's or intermediate's, I think this is better left for a gunsmith. If you already own every tool listed, chances are you'll be able to do it no problem!! Personally, outside a punch set, mult-function wrench, and cleaning supplies, I don't have any of that other stuff!

Hey just because you're clueless, inexperienced and or incompetent doesn't mean the rest of us are! Working on AR's are so simple hence why a lot of people are in to it. Go to ar15 dot com or the m4carbine site and see how large the AR build/modding community is.

Have a qualified Gun Smith do this guys. By the time you buy all this stuff you will be out a lot of cash & not to mention its dangerous as hell.

The Cmmg directions say not to remove the gas rings. Thanks brownells LOL. Now I need gas rings.

@Krizsl3 Required alignment between piston and upper receiver hole for traveling of piston rod. It (piston rod) should be freely move without binding.

Maybe lube barrel surface with vaseline or gun oil?

the bolt carrier key its different, from the time it was removed until it was assembled.
